How many characters can I use?

Type or paste your text and the counter shows how many characters it has, how many are left for each platform, and when you've gone over. Characters are counted as you see them, so an emoji or an accented letter counts as one. Spaces, line breaks and punctuation count too, which is how X, Instagram and the others count.

For search results, keep page titles to about 60 characters and meta descriptions to about 155–160, or Google may cut them off. SMS messages fit 160 basic Latin characters, but a single emoji or non-Latin letter switches the message to Unicode, which allows only 70. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to our server.

Questions

How many characters is an Instagram caption?

Up to 2,200, but only about the first 125 show before "more", so put the important part first.

How long should an SEO title be?

About 50–60 characters. Google cuts titles at around 600 pixels wide, so wide letters fill it sooner.

Do emojis count as one character?

Here, yes, because that's what you see. X counts most emoji as two characters, so leave a little room.

Why does my SMS split into several messages?

Long texts are sent in parts of 153 characters, or 67 when the text has emoji or non-Latin letters.
