How do I convert a PDF to Word?

Add your PDF and the text of every page is read and written into a Word document (.docx) that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages. Paragraphs are rebuilt from the lines of text, headings keep their larger size, bold text stays bold, and each PDF page starts on a new page.

The converter works best on PDFs made from documents, such as reports, letters and contracts. Complex layouts with columns, tables or text over images come out as plain paragraphs, and images aren't copied. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text rather than text, so use Image to text (OCR) for those. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDFs are never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add a PDF

    Select or drop one PDF.

  2. Wait a moment

The text of each page is read and turned into paragraphs.

  3. Download the .docx

Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and edit.

Questions

Is this PDF to Word converter free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no page limit and no watermark.

Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

The text and its order are kept, with headings and bold type. Exact positions, columns, tables and images aren't recreated, so check the layout after converting.

Why is my Word document empty?

The PDF is probably a scan, which stores pages as pictures. Convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG, then use Image to text (OCR).

Can I convert password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then convert.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser.
