Compare text: find the differences

Paste two versions of a text to see exactly what was added, removed or changed, line by line or word by word.

How does text compare work?

Paste the original on the left and the new version on the right, then press Compare. The tool finds the smallest set of changes that turns one into the other (the same Myers method used by Git) and highlights removed parts in red and added parts in green.

Line mode suits code, lists and contracts. Word mode shows small edits inside sentences, which suits essays and articles. You can ignore differences in capital letters or spacing. Everything happens in your browser, so your text is never sent to our server.

How it works

  1. Paste both versions

Original on the left, changed version on the right.

  2. Choose lines or words

    Optionally ignore case and spacing.

  3. Review the changes

Removed text in red, added text in green.

Questions

Can I compare code?

Yes. Use line mode. Turn on Ignore spacing to skip indentation changes.

Is there a size limit?

Thousands of lines work well on a computer. Very large texts may take a few seconds.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The comparison runs in your browser, so it's safe for private documents.
