Remove image background

Remove the background from a photo automatically. Download a transparent PNG, or put the subject on a new colour.

How does automatic background removal work?

An AI model (U²-Net) looks at the photo and works out which pixels belong to the main subject, such as a person, pet or product. Everything else is made transparent. You can then download a PNG with a transparent background, or choose a white, black or custom colour.

The model runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded. The first time, your browser downloads the model and its engine (about 19 MB); after that it's cached. Results are best when the subject stands out clearly from the background.

Is it really free?

Yes. There are no credits or limits, because the work happens on your own device.

Why are some edges rough?

Fine details like hair and see-through objects are hard to separate. Try the edge sharpness slider, or a photo with a plainer background.

What image size do I get?

The same size as your photo, up to 3000 pixels on the longest side.

Can I use it for product photos?

Yes. Products on a plain surface usually give clean results, and a white background is one click.
