Compress GIFs

Reduce animated GIF size by trimming colours, frame rate and width.

or drop files here · you can also paste with Ctrl+V

Your files never leave this device. Everything runs in your browser.

How do I make a GIF smaller?

Add your animated GIF and choose a level. Light keeps 192 colours and the same frame rate, Recommended keeps 128 colours, and Strong keeps 64 colours at 10 frames per second. Reducing the width, for example to 480 pixels, makes the biggest difference.

The animation is kept. Everything happens in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add your GIF

Select or drop an animated GIF.

  2. Choose a level and width

Smaller width and fewer colours give smaller files.

  3. Download

    Save the compressed GIF.

Questions

What makes GIFs so large?

Every frame is stored as a full image, and GIFs don't compress video well. Size, colour count and frame rate all add up.

Should I use a video instead?

For long clips, yes. An MP4 of the same clip is usually many times smaller than a GIF.

Will my GIF stay animated?

Yes, every frame is kept unless you choose Strong, which reduces it to 10 frames per second.
