What app icon sizes do I need?

iOS apps need a 1024 × 1024 App Store icon plus smaller sizes for the home screen, Spotlight, Settings and notifications on iPhone and iPad. Android apps need launcher icons for five screen densities (48 to 192 pixels), round versions, adaptive icon layers for Android 8 and later, and a 512 × 512 icon for Google Play. Installable web apps (PWAs) need 192 and 512 pixel icons, ideally with a maskable version.

This generator makes all of them from one square image, in the folder structure Xcode and Android Studio expect, so you can drop them straight into your project. Everything happens in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add a square image

    Use a 1024 × 1024 PNG or SVG for the best result, or type letters or an emoji.

  2. Set background and padding

    App icons must be opaque, so pick a background colour.

  3. Download the ZIP

    Drop the iOS set into Xcode and the Android folders into app/src/main/res.

Questions

What size should my source image be?

1024 × 1024 pixels, the size of the App Store icon. Larger square images and SVGs also work. Smaller images will look soft in the biggest icons.

Why are the iOS icons square?

iOS rounds the corners itself. Apple asks for square, fully opaque icons without transparency, so that's what this tool makes.

What are Android adaptive icons?

Since Android 8, launchers shape icons into circles, squircles or rounded squares. Adaptive icons have a separate foreground and background so they fit every shape. The download includes both layers and the XML files.

What is a maskable icon?

A PWA icon with extra padding so Android can crop it to any shape without cutting off your logo. It's included in the PWA folder.
