Compress videos

Make videos smaller by quality level, resolution, or a target size in MB.

Your files never leave this device. Everything runs in your browser.

How do I reduce a video's file size?

There are three ways, and you can combine them. Choose a compression level (Light, Recommended or Strong), lower the resolution, for example from 1080p to 720p, which makes the biggest difference, or set a target size in MB so the video fits a limit such as 25 MB for Gmail attachments. The result is an MP4 (H.264) that plays on almost any device.

Videos are processed in your browser and never uploaded. The first time, your browser downloads the video converter (about 30 MB). Files up to about 120 MB work well; larger videos need a desktop computer with plenty of memory.

Questions

What's the best way to make a video smaller?

Lower the resolution. A 1080p video resized to 720p has less than half the pixels, which saves more than any other setting.

How do I compress a video for email?

Choose Target size and 25 MB, which is Gmail's attachment limit. Other email services have different limits.

Why is the first video slow to start?

Your browser downloads the video converter the first time. After that it's cached.

Why did my browser run out of memory?

Large videos need a lot of memory. Try a shorter clip, a lower resolution, or a desktop browser.
