How do I reduce a PDF's file size?
Choose a level. Light rebuilds the file more efficiently and keeps text selectable, which helps most with PDFs made by some apps. Recommended and Strong turn each page into an optimised image at 144 or 96 DPI, which shrinks scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs dramatically. Target size tries lighter settings first and stops at the first one under your limit.
Image-based levels make text unselectable and unsearchable, so keep the original if you need that. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDFs are never uploaded.

Questions
Which level should I use for scanned documents?
Recommended. Scans are already images, so they shrink a lot with no visible change at 144 DPI.
Why did Light barely reduce the size?
Many PDFs are already stored efficiently. Light helps with files that contain unused data; for bigger savings, use Recommended.
Can I compress a PDF to 100 KB?
Often, yes, for short documents. Use Target size or the compress PDF to 100 KB page. Long PDFs with many pages may not fit; split them first.
Will the PDF still print well?
At Recommended (144 DPI), yes for normal documents. For high-quality printing, keep the original.
