How do I scan a QR code from an image?

Choose a photo or screenshot that contains the QR code, and its contents appear straight away: a link, plain text, a Wi-Fi network and password, a contact card, a phone number or an email address. To scan something in front of you, press Scan with camera, allow camera access and point it at the code. Barcodes such as EAN-13, UPC-A and Code 128 are read too.

Links are shown before they're opened, so you can check where a code really goes; that protects you from fake parking and payment codes. Codes are read by your browser's built-in barcode reader (in Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet and on Android), and the image and camera feed never leave your device.

How it works

Use the camera, or choose a photo or screenshot.

  2. Read the contents

Links, Wi-Fi, contacts and text are recognised.

  3. Copy or open it

    Check links before opening them.

Questions

How do I scan a QR code on my laptop?

Press Scan with camera and hold the code up to the webcam, or take a screenshot of it and add the image.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. Add the screenshot and the code is read from the picture.

Does it work on iPhone?

Safari can't read codes in web pages yet, but the iPhone Camera app reads QR codes by itself: point it at the code and tap the banner.

Is it safe?

Yes. Nothing is opened automatically, and the image stays on your device. Always check a link's address before opening it.

Can I make a QR code too?

Yes, with the free QR code generator.
