App icon sizes for iOS, Android and PWAs

Updated 21 October 2026

Tool for this guide: App icon generator

Short answer: start from one 1024 × 1024 square image and run it through the app icon generator. You get an Xcode AppIcon set, Android launcher and adaptive icons, a 512 × 512 Play Store icon and PWA icons, in the folders Xcode and Android Studio expect.

The sizes

PlatformWhat's needed
iOS (App Store)1024 × 1024, square, no transparency
iOS (devices)Smaller sizes for home screen, Spotlight, Settings and notifications on iPhone and iPad
Android launcher48, 72, 96, 144 and 192 px (five screen densities), plus round versions
Android 8+Adaptive icon: separate foreground and background layers with XML
Google Play512 × 512
PWA (installable web app)192 × 192 and 512 × 512, plus a maskable version

Step by step

  1. Open the app icon generator and add a square image, ideally 1024 × 1024 or an SVG.
  2. Download the ZIP and copy the folders into your Xcode and Android Studio projects.

Everything runs in your browser.

Questions

What size should my source image be?

1024 × 1024 pixels. Larger square images and SVGs also work. Smaller images look soft in the biggest icons; upscale them first if needed.

What is a maskable icon?

A PWA icon with extra padding so Android can crop it to any shape without cutting off your logo.

I need icons for a website, not an app.

Use the favicon generator or the full website asset pack. See the favicon checklist.

Try it now

Turn one 1024 × 1024 image into every app icon you need: an Xcode AppIcon set for iPhone and iPad, Android launcher and adaptive icons, a Play Store icon and PWA icons.
