How to rotate or flip an image (and fix sideways photos)
Updated 21 October 2026
Tool for this guide: Rotate image
Short answer: open rotate image, add your photos and press the rotate button on each one, or the arrows above the list to turn them all by 90°. Tick Flip horizontally for a mirror image.
Step by step
- Open rotate image and select, drop or paste your images.
- Rotate each image with its own buttons, or rotate the whole batch with the arrows above the list.
- Flip horizontally (mirror) or vertically if needed.
- Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP.
Everything runs in your browser, so your photos aren't uploaded.
Why do photos look sideways in some apps?
Phones often don't turn the pixels when you hold the phone sideways. They save a small rotation instruction in the photo's EXIF data instead. Your gallery reads it, but some websites, email apps and older programs ignore it, so the photo appears sideways.
This tool shows each photo the right way up first, so you rotate what you actually see. The saved copy has its pixels turned, so it looks right everywhere.
When to flip instead of rotate
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| A sideways photo upright | Rotate 90° left or right |
| An upside-down photo upright | Rotate 180° |
| Backwards text in a selfie fixed | Flip horizontally |
| A reflection effect | Flip vertically |
Questions
How do I rotate many photos at once?
Use the rotate arrows above the file list to turn every image by 90°.
Does rotating reduce quality?
Turning by 90° or 180° doesn't change the picture, but the image is saved again. For JPGs the change is very hard to see.
How do I rotate a video?
Use rotate video. For PDF pages, use organise PDF.
