Why convert JPG to PNG?

Some design tools and upload forms ask for PNG, and PNG won't lose any more quality when edited and saved again. Converting keeps the image exactly as it is now, but it won't restore detail that JPG compression already removed, and the file will be larger.

Questions

Will converting to PNG make my photo sharper?

No. It keeps the photo exactly as it is, including any existing JPG artefacts.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. Photos are often 3–10 times larger as PNG.

Can I make the background transparent?

Not with this tool. Converting only changes the format.
