How to calculate your exact age

Updated 23 October 2026

Tool for this guide: Age calculator

Short answer: enter your date of birth in the age calculator. It shows your exact age in years, months and days, the totals in months, weeks, days and hours, the weekday you were born, and how many days until your next birthday.

How age is counted

  1. Count the whole years since your birth date.
  2. Count the whole months since your last birthday.
  3. Count the days left over.

Someone born on 15 January 2000 is 26 years, 9 months and 8 days old on 23 October 2026. Real calendar months are used, not 30-day blocks, which is how forms and official documents count age.

Age on a specific date

Many forms ask for your age on a set date, such as the closing date of a job application, a school starting date or a visa cut-off. Change the Age on date in the calculator to see the age on that day.

People born on 29 February have a real birthday only every four years. In other years the calculator counts their birthday on 28 February, the usual legal practice in many countries.
