How to round image corners or make a circle profile picture
Updated 21 October 2026
Tool for this guide: Round corners
Short answer: crop the photo to a square (1:1), then open round corners, set the corner size to 50% and save as PNG. You get a circle with transparent corners.
Corner sizes
The size is a percentage of the image's shorter side, so it looks the same on large and small images.
| Corner size | Result |
|---|---|
| 5–10% | Subtle rounded corners, like app cards |
| 20–30% | Soft, friendly look |
| 50% on a square | A circle |
| 50% on a rectangle | A pill shape |
Step by step
- Crop to 1:1 if you want a circle.
- Open round corners and add up to 50 images.
- Choose the corner size and click Round corners.
- Save as PNG for transparent corners, or JPG with a corner colour that matches your page.
Everything runs in your browser.
Where round images are used
- Profile pictures and avatars on websites and email signatures.
- Team photos on an About page.
- Product cards and thumbnails.
- App icons and stickers. For icons, see the app icon generator.
Questions
Why are the corners white?
You saved as JPG, which can't be transparent. Choose PNG.
Do social networks need a round picture?
No. Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn crop square profile pictures into circles themselves. Upload a square image; just keep the face in the middle.
