Tool for this guide: Voice recorder
Short answer: open the voice recorder, press Start recording and allow microphone access. Watch the level meter as you speak, pause and resume as often as you like, then press Stop and save and download, or save as MP3.
Step by step
- Open the voice recorder.
- Press Start recording and allow the microphone when your browser asks.
- Check that the level meter moves when you speak.
- Pause and resume as needed.
- Press Stop and save, listen back, and download as recorded or as MP3.
The recording is made by your browser and never uploaded. Echo cancellation and noise reduction are switched on.
Tips for a clear recording
- Quiet, soft room. Curtains, carpets and sofas reduce echo; bathrooms and kitchens add it.
- 10–20 cm from the microphone, slightly off to the side to avoid popping sounds.
- A headset or earphone microphone usually beats a laptop's built-in one.
- Record a 5-second test and listen before the real take.
