How to rotate a sideways video
Updated 21 October 2026
Tool for this guide: Rotate video
Short answer: open rotate video, add the video, choose 90° right, 90° left or 180°, and press Rotate video. The picture itself is turned, so it plays the right way up everywhere.
Which way to rotate?
| The top of the picture points | Choose |
|---|---|
| Left | 90° right |
| Right | 90° left |
| Down (upside down) | 180° |
| Text reads backwards (selfie video) | Mirror |
Step by step
- Open rotate video and add the video: phone videos, screen recordings, any format.
- Choose how to turn it.
- Download the new MP4.
It runs in your browser with ffmpeg, so the video is never uploaded. Files up to about 120 MB work best.
Why a video looks sideways only in some apps
Phones often save a rotation flag instead of turning the picture. Your phone reads it, but some players, websites and TVs ignore it. Rotating here turns the actual frames, so every app shows it correctly, including after uploading to social media.
Next steps
- Wrong shape for TikTok or Instagram after rotating? Crop video to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5.
- Cut the start and end: trim video.
- Make it smaller to send: compress video.
Questions
Does rotating reduce quality?
The video is re-encoded at high quality, so any change is very hard to see.
Can I rotate photos too?
