How to trim a video without an app

Tool for this guide: Trim video
Short answer: open trim video, add the file, set the start and end times and save. You get an MP4 that plays on any device, with no watermark.
Step by step
- Open trim video and add your video (MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM).
- Set the start time where you want the clip to begin.
- Set the end time.
- Save the MP4.
The video is processed in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Short phone clips take a few seconds; long 4K recordings take longer and work best on a computer.
Getting exact times
- Pause on the frame you want and use the current time as the start or end.
- Play the result once. If a word or movement is cut off, move the start or end by half a second and save again.
Trimming on a phone
- iPhone: the Photos app can trim too (Edit, then drag the ends). Use the web tool when you need to trim a file from Files, email or a download.
- Android: Google Photos has a trim option for videos in your gallery. For other files, use the web tool in Chrome.
Why trim before sharing
A shorter video is a smaller file. If you need to fit a limit, trim first, then compress the video. For Discord's 10 MB limit, see how to compress a video for Discord.
Other things you can do with the clip
- Turn it into a GIF for a short loop.
- Extract the audio as MP3.
- Convert it to another format.
Try it now
Cut a video down to the part you want by setting a start and end time. Saved as an MP4 that plays everywhere.
